U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Alex Pineda, a tactical air control party radio operator maintainer and driver, is currently deployed to Forward Operating Base Spin Boldak, Afghanistan.

Pineda, who calls Kansas City, Mo. home, is on his first deployment since joining the Air Force two years ago.

"The thing I love most about this deployment is that we directly impact the mission," said Pineda.

Tactical air control party members provide assistance and expertise in planning and controlling combat air resources. They also operate and supervise communication nets to support Army ground maneuvers.

Stateside, Pineda is assigned to the 5th Air Support Operations Squadron, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
