Reverse Auctioning
SOUTHWEST ASIA -- A contractor describes the functions on a generator procured by the Air Force to Maj. Tim Hawkins, 386th Expeditionary Contracting Squadron commander, Capt. Lisa Gambrel, 386th ECONS contracting officer, and other contractors recently in the Persian Gulf Region. Airmen from the 386th ECONS used an innovative method to procure 29 generators, called electronic reverse auctioning, to save the Air Force $395,000. SOUTHWEST ASIA – These American patriots are on their way home following a six-month deployment with the 494th Gun Truck Detachment in northern Iraq supporting the Army’s in-lieu-of tasking running gun truck security escort duty for the third country national line haul missions being conducted throughout Iraq in 2004. SOUTHWEST ASIA – The Air Force 2T1 vehicle operator career field is comprised of 2,363 Airmen, 268 of them are women. These 70th Medium Truck Detachment ‘Scorpions’ and the 424th MTD ‘Centurions’ are eight of 26 female vehicle operators currently deployed with the 586th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron at an Army camp in the Persian Gulf Region. These women circumnavigate a 31,000-plus-mile stretch of highways in Iraq and the Persian Gulf Region delivering life and mission-sustaining materials to U.S. joint-service and coalition ground forces located at all the forward operating bases in Iraq supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
