Chapman, a special tactics combat controller, was killed during a fierce battle against enemy fighters in Takur Ghar, Afghanistan, March 4, 2002. He was posthumously awarded the MOH for “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty.” The MOH is the highest award for heroism in military action that the nation can bestow on a member of its armed forces.
