10,000-hour feat

Rey Mateo, Northrup-Grumman aircraft power plant mechanic, inspects the BR710 engine on and E-11A aircraft here recently. Two of the fleet’s engines surpassed 10,000 hours “on-wing’’ without having to be pulled for major maintenance recently, surpassing the industry standard of 7,000-8,000 hours. The E-11A provides airborne communication and data links to ground forces operating in Afghanistan. It is equipped to relay and broadcast a variety of information in support of current operations. The Battlefield Airborne Communications Node supports seamless movement of both voice and data communication. (U.S. Air Force Photo/Master Sgt. Russell Martin)
