Maj. Kellie Stewart holds military working dog Dena's leg while Staff Sgt. Joshua Hayes inserts a catheter April 17, 2012, during quarterly MWD medical care refresher training at the Transit Center at Manas, Kyrgyzstan. MWD handlers are trained to perform routine wellness checks on their dogs. The goal of the training for the handlers to be able to recognize life threatening problems and be able to react quickly and effectively to save a dog's life. Stewart is the 422nd Medical Detachment Veterinary Services deputy commander deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.
