Staff Sgt. Larry Grimes, 376th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Unit hydraulics specialist, properly seats seals in landing gear struts for a KC-135 Stratotanker at the Transit Center at Manas, Kyrgyzstan, Dec. 1. The landing gear had to be repaired and reinstalled in under 24 hours to ensure the aircraft was mission ready for the next day’s air tasking order. The KC-135 plays a vital role for operations in Afghanistan. Stratotankers fly an average of 16 sorties a day, providing the ability for support aircraft to be overhead anywhere in Afghanistan within five minutes of an air support request. Grimes is deployed from the 92nd Maintenance Group at Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Hank Hoegen)
