Staff Sgt. Harold Hardial, 379th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron physical dimension lead technician, uses the helium glow of a monochromatic light and a piece of quartz to detect the ridge lines of a micrometer Nov. 15, 2011, at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia. Hardial works in the squadron’s Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory, where Airmen service equipment from approximately 320 units in the area of responsibility, making sure that more than 15,000 pieces of test equipment are properly calibrated and in the hands of warfighters.
