KABUL, Afghanistan – Royal Air Force Flying Officer Emma Atkinson, instructs Afghan Lieutenants at the Thunder Lab located on the Afghan Air Force compound. Atkinson was the first British female officer to act as a mentor at the lab. Thunder Lab is an English immersion lab aimed at preparing prospective Afghan lieutenants for further English and pilot training in the U.S. or other pre-selected countries.
