KABUL, Afghanistan – 2nd Lt. Masooma Hussaini, practices her flight simulation during a course aimed at improving her aviation skills. Lieutenant Hussaini was one of four Afghan females who traveled to the U.S. to continue their training at the Defense Language Institute in hopes of returning to Afghanistan one day to fly the Mi-17 helicopter. Lieutenant Hussaini received her initial training at the 438th “Thunder Lab.” Thunder Lab is an English immersion lab aimed at preparing prospective Afghan lieutenants for further English and pilot training in the U.S. or other pre-selected countries. The Thunder Lab has been selected as one of two teams to represent Air Combat Command for the 2011 Chief of Staff Team Excellence award. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Brian E. Christiansen)
