Dental technicians keep mouths functioning

TRANSIT CENTER AT MANAS, Kyrgyzstan - Capt. Bryan Wilson, 376th Expeditionary Medical Group general dentist, uses a high-speed hand piece that shoots water to cool a fractured tooth while removing an old amalgam filling on a patient while Master Sgt. Kenneth Kasper, 376th EMG noncommissioned officer in charge of surgical/dental service, clears the field of water and debris with suction and uses an air/water syringe to keep the mirror free of splatter Aug. 31. The green rubber dam prevents water and debris from going into the patient's mouth and keeps the tooth clean and dry to assist in long-term quality of the filling because water and debris in the amalgam will weaken it over time.
