Air Force Hands over Airspace

Tom Samples, Washington Consulting Group, air traffic controller trainer and retired Federal Aviation Administration controller, advises an Iraqi air traffic controller, directing the airspace of aircraft traveling through Iraq, Aug. 31, 2010, at Baghdad International Airport. Mr. Samples is contracted by the Iraq Civil Aviation Authority to train and advise Iraqi controllers. With help from the Air Component Coordination Element - Iraq air space planners. As Part of Operation New Dawn, and the Strategic Framework Agreement, the U.S. Air Force is turning over airspace control from 15,000 to 24,000 feet in the northern sector of Iraq-known as the Kirkuk sector.
