SOUTHWEST ASIA - The sun sets on a C-130 transport here Aug. 31, 2010, as Operation Iraqi Freedom draws to a close at an undisclosed air base, home to the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing. Operation New Dawn begins Sept. 1, 2010, bringing with it a new mission focused on a strategic partnership that signifies the U.S. Government's long-term commitment to the government and people of Iraq. The 386th AEW played an essential role in the responsible drawdown of U.S. forces leading up to this moment, having airlifted tens of thousand of Soldiers out of Iraq in the past three months alone.
