Australian Day

An Australian military contingent celebrated Australia Day at a non-disclosed Southwest Asia location, Jan. 26, 2010. The event included a barbecue, mingling with other Coalition forces and watching a broadcast of an Australian team competing in a cricket match. Celebrated annually, the day commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788, the hoisting of the British flag there and the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of Australia.
