Senior Airman Karrie Whitehill, 376th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron, uses a Trimble 5700 base station to collect data for the benchmarks they installed on base with GPS surveying equipment. A benchmark, in regards to surveying, is a permanent survey marker with a precisely known position. The purpose of this is to give ECES the ability to survey all areas on Manas AB, which in turn directly impacts the squadron’s mapping and construction capabilities. (Air Force photo by Staff Sgt.
