Volunteer Award honors fallen Airman

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- Lieutenant Col. Neil Allen, 336th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron commander, unveils the Capt. Mark "Pitbull" McDowell Volunteer Award at the Craig Joint Theater Hospital here recently. Captain McDowell died in an F-15E crash in eastern Afghanistan July 18, 2009. The award was named in honor of Capt. McDowell's selfless efforts to volunteer over 25 hours at the hospital in the month and a half. The award will be given out monthly to volunteers at the hospital here. The month of August award recipient was Maj. James Lee, 336th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron.
