Airman 1st Class David Rosas blasts de-icing fluid from the turret of his cabin to remove ice from a C-17 Globemaster III prior to launch. The cabin is suspended from the end of a 80-foot lift truck. Airman Rosas certainly enjoys his job. “The best thing about Manas Air Base has to be the snow,” said Airman Rosas. “I never knew I’d enjoy melting it off of aircraft so much!” “Fifty-to-60 feet off the ground in a small basket spraying deicer fluid on aircraft is one of the funnest things I have done in my short time in the Air Force,” he said. Airman Rosas is with the 817th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron/Detachment 1 Aircraft Maintenance Unit deployed from the 62nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, McChord AFB, Wash.
