Heavy equipment shop a heavy hitter for Manas upkeep

John Tutt, guides Andrey Ivanin to drive forward in order to remove deicing equipment from the back of a dump truck at Manas Air Base, Kyrgyzstan. Among the various vehicles that the 376th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Heavy Equipment crew manages are the deicing and sanding equipment which is used during the harsh winter months of snow and ice removal from the runway and living areas here. During the summer months, the dump trunk is used for other projects such as hauling rock and sand. Mr. Tutt and Mr. Ivanin are contractors with Sallyport Global Services. The team’s main purpose here is to keep the flightline cleared for continual refueling, cargo and passenger missions supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech.
