Staff Sgt. Ryan Craig, 376th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron, comforts his military working dog Bruno while Col. Marcus Beyerle, 376th Expeditionary Medical Group dental surgeon, prepares to repair Bruno’s chipped tooth Nov. 18. Sergeant Craig and Bruno, deployed from the 99th SFS at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., have been working as a team for two years and this is their first deployment together. They spend their time here doing vehicle searches and patrolling the perimeter of the base. Colonel Beyerle is also deployed from Nellis AFB. The 376 EMDG treats Bruno and the other security forces K-9s here whenever necessary by providing comprehensive medical care at the direction of the veterinarian who is currently stationed at Bagram Air Base. In addition to his dental repair, Bruno was checked for an ear infection. Other working dogs have been x-rayed, treated for minor infections and received blood tests. As active duty members, the military working dogs are eligible for the same medical benefits as their two-legged partners. (U.S. Air Force photo/Capt. Christy Stravolo)
