Col. Christopher Bence, 376th Air Expeditionary Wing commander, performs a pre-flight inspection of a KC-135 Stratotanker as the crew chief, Airman 1st Class Gerard Arceneaux, removes the landing gear "downlock" pin in preparation for an aerial refueling mission over Afghanistan from Manas Air Base, Kyrgyzstan, April 8. During the flight two French C-135FR aviators accompanied the U.S. Air Force crew at Colonel Bence's invitation; only the second time in which coalition personnel have flown on an American tanker during a combat mission over Afghanistan. Along with American KC-135 Stratotankers, Manas AB is home to a detachment Spanish C-130s and of French C-135FR aerial refuelers. Airman Arceneaux is assigned to the 376th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and is deployed from the 92nd Air Refueling Wing at Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash. (U.S. Air Force photo/Maj.
