Northrop Grumman contractors Andrina Luxcon and Keith Lareau break down a Roll-On-Beyond-Line-Of-Sight Enhancement System, or ROBE, "B-kit" after diagnosing a problem with the unit at Manas Air Base, Kyrgyzstan, March 12. Since its maiden operational flight on a KC-135 Stratotanker, July 13, ROBE is revolutionizing combat operations in Afghanistan by bridging the different communications systems used by coalition aircraft and ground units, expanding communications coverage into the most remote reaches, and allowing more data to be rapidly shared among warfighters. Both contractors are deployed to Manas AB from San Diego to training KC-135 Stratotanker aircrew on how to use and troubleshoot the system, as well as work through technical and procedural challenges with the system.
