The mission goes on in uncertain times

Staff Sgt. Sam Carly, an air transportation specialist, guides a pallet of Soldiers' equipment onto a flatbed trailer that will tranport it to a C-17 Globemaster III on the flightline at Manas Air Base, Kyrgyzstan, Feb. 27. As the passenger terminal "yard boss," Sergeant Carly oversees pallet building operations in support of one of Manas AB's primary missions; the movement of coalition personnel and cargo in and out of Afghanistan. In 2008 alone, 170,000 personnel and 5,000 short tons of cargo passed through Manas in support of operations there. The Victorville, Calif., native is deployed to Manas from Ramstein AB, Germany.
