Tech. Sgt. Thomas Pettit plays checkers Feb. 4 with a patient recovering from heart surgery at the Bishkek Institute of Cardiology, known as the Children's Heart Hospital, in Kyrgyzstan. In his off duty time, Sergeant Pettit participates in the Manas Air Base Outreach Society, which is a private, nonprofit, volunteer service organization that works with local charities to support the greater Bishkek area and communities near the base. MABOS has funded 128 heart surgeries since 2003. Sergeant Pettit is with the 376th Expeditionary Medical Group and is deployed from Beale Air Force Base, Calif. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt.
