Airman Brent Koontz, heavy equipment operator and Airman 1st Class Marcus Hines, pavement and construction operator, both assigned to the 1st Expeditionary Red Horse Group, place one inch thick sheets of plywood in front of a heavy equipment earth compacter to keep it's drive wheels from damaging the flightline pavement Jan. 2, 2009, at an undisclosed air base in Southwest Asia. The earth compacter will be loaded onto a Russian Antonov 124-100 heavy lift cargo aircraft and transported to Afghanistan for work on various Red Horse concrete projects. Airman Koontz, a native of Hagerstown, Md., is deployed from Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., Airman Hines, a native of Durant Okla., is deployed from Altus AFB, Okla., Both are deployed in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom and Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa.
