SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Tech. Sgt. Jack Hartman (left) and Senior Airman Andrew Vaughan (right), address attendees at their award presentation in front of the Ray Rangel Memorial at Fire Station 1 here Dec. 21. The two Airmen from the 380th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Fire Emergency Services Flight were voted by their flight members as the two who best epitomized what Ray Rangel stood and died for. Their actions and contributions both on and off duty emulated selflessness, according to the award requirements. Staff Sgt. Ray Rangel, a fire emergency services technician, died in Iraq Feb. 13, 2005, while attempting to save two Soldiers trapped in an overturned Highly Mobile Multi-wheeled Vehicle in a canal. Col. Darren Daniels, 380th Expeditionary Mission Support Group commander and presiding officer at the ceremony, was Sergeant Rangel's home-station commander when the tragedy struck.
