SOUTHWEST ASIA -- 1st Lt. Jessica Lopez runs the first 3 miles of her 26.2-mile marathon on base March 2. The C-17A pilot from Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., was training to run the L.A. Marathon with her mother, Dawn, when she got deployment orders. The pair decided to run at the same time anyway, mother in California and daughter in the desert. Lieutenant Lopez finished in 3:39.
