More than 3,000 Airmen departing Iraq, Afghanistan and other U.S. Central Command-area nations in January and February will leave their weapons in the AOR rather than bring them back to their home stations. The weapons will be signed over to the Airmen’s replacements. A U.S. Air Forces Central weapons prepositioning initiative will save the service $1.2 million every four months and will make travel to and from the AOR easier for deploying Airmen by reducing the amount of baggage they need to bring.
