Two MH-53 Pave Low Helicopters prepare for takeoff in their last combat mission Sept. 27. The Pave Lows' last mission was to supply special operations forces in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The MH-53 is scheduled to be retired from the Air Force inventory Sept. 30. The primary function of the aircraft was long-range infiltration, exfiltration and resupply of special operations forces day or night and in adverse weather conditions. It was the largest, most powerful and technologically advanced helicopter in the Air Force, with a service record dating back to the Vietnam War. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Jason Epley)
