SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Staff Sgt. Shane Newell from the 380th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron uses an 8-ton steel wheel roller to compact loose material here Sept. 16. It can be used on dirt, stone, asphalt roads etc. The weight and vibration helps to lock the material together to form a solid wearing surface and prevent vehicles from getting stuck in the sand. ECES is preparing an area for war readiness materials in support of Operation Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. Sergeant Newell is deployed from the 735th CES Ramstein Air Base, Germany.(U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Christopher A. Campbell)(released)
