Tech. Sgt. Gina Laux, an independent duty medical technician assigned to the 379th Expeditionary Medical Group, attaches spider straps to a backboard in an ambulance Sept. 12, 2008, at an undisclosed air base in Southwest Asia. The backboard is used to load patients with spinal injuries onto the ambulance without causing further injuries. Sergeant Laux strives to keep deployed members healthy so they can continue the fight. Sergeant Laux, a native of Tampa, Fla., is deployed from Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., supporting Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa.
