The new generation

KIRKUK REGIONAL AIR BASE, Iraq -- An Iraqi air force student pilot checks the prop of a Cessna 172 Skyhawk before an early morning training flight here Sept. 1. The pilot is part of the 52nd Expeditionary Flying Training Squadron's effort to help train the next generation of Iraqi pilots. The newest class more than doubled the squadron's student population as they began the year-long program. The new pilots underwent medical and physical tests during the application process and were also required to pass an English proficiency course. Upon graduation, the Iraqi pilots are assigned to units that either conduct an airlift mission with C-130 aircraft, or an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission with King Air 350, Cessna 208 and CH-2000 aircraft.
