SOUTHWEST ASIA -- In the early hours of the morning, Senior Airman Nicole Palko, 386th Expeditionary Medical Group, readies an ambulance to transport an injured Soldier to the Contingency Aeromedical Staging Facility at an air base in Southwest Asia. The CASF is a medical facility that provides personnel and equipment for the aeromedical evacuation of ill and wounded U.S. and coalition force members. Patients from forward positions in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility are transported from the CASF to medical centers in Europe and the continental U.S. Airman Palko is deployed from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
