JOINT BASE BALAD, Iraq -- Airman 1st Class Troy Harlow checks the torque on a GBU-38 Joint Direct Attack Munition here Aug. 7. The torque must be the same for all bolts on the JDAM. The JDAM contains an inertial navigational system and a GPS guidance control unit that improves the accuracy of general purpose bombs in any weather condition. Airman Harlow is a munitions handler with the 332nd Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron and is deployed from Hill Air Force Base, Utah. His hometown is Grand Forks, N.D.
