“Dirt Boys” move earth, increase morale

Tech. Sgt. Justin Kearns, 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron, uses a water truck to douse the gatch while Senior Airman Nicholas Moxley, 386th ECES, loads it into a 30-ton dump truck with a Volvo loader here, July 24, 2013. Kearns and Moxley are both heavy equipment operators. Kearns is watering down the gatch to put moisture into it making it easier to bond. Gatch is a sand and gypsum mix used under all buildings here; it is the equivalent to quick concrete. Kearns, a native of Reed City Mich. is deployed out of the 110th Airlift Wing, Battle Creek, Mich., Air National Guard unit.
