386th AEW transitions to commercial jet fuel

Senior Airman Jesse Silva, 386th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron, bulk storage attendant, adjusts the knobs on a Hammonds Additive Injector here, July 16, 2013. Silva does this to regulate how much additive is injected into the fuel, the squadron’s first delivery of Jet A1. The 386th Air Expeditionary Wing has joined a list of many other Air Force units making the switch from JP8, military specification fuel, to commercial fuel. In order to prepare the Jet A1 fuel for use in military aircraft, Silver overseas the injection of two additives, the fuels system icing inhibitor to help prevent water in the fuel from freezing and the corrosion inhibitor/lubricity improver. Silva is deployed out of the Atlantic City, N.J., Air National Guard unit. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt. Christopher A. Campbell)
