Train, Advise, Assist Command-Air (TAAC-Air) personnel worked with the Afghan air force and the Non-Standard Rotary Wing program office to schedule the helicopters for heavy repair while still maintaining the AAF’s war fighting capabilities with the other aircraft in the fleet. Mi-17s are capable of direct attack, close air support, search and rescue, and cargo and medevac transport.
