Turkey’s participation in an ANZAC Day ceremony is a symbol of the partnership that has been built between Turkey, Australia and New Zealand since the Battle of Gallipoli, when the Anzacs and Ottomans were on opposing sides of the campaign. ANZAC Day is a national day of remembrance for both Australia and New Zealand, and is celebrated annually on April 25 as it marks the anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli by Australia and New Zealand forces during World War I.
