The Army 3rd Battalion 2nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, utilizes the Patriot launching system to protect Al Dhafra Air Base, July 18, 2018. The first PATRIOT air defence systems were deployed during the first Gulf War to defend against the Iraqi Scud missile threat. The PATRIOT system has evolved over the years as the threat has changed and technology has advanced. PATRIOT stands for “Phased Array Tracking Radar to Intercept on Target”.
