UNDISCLOSED LOCATION -- The United States Air Force depends on the innovation provided by well-trained, well-educated leaders of all ranks. The First Sergeant, sometimes called “First Shirt,” is responsible for ensuring the morale, discipline and well-being of all the enlisted Airmen in his unit.
332d Air Expeditionary Wing Red Tails came together Sept. 27 to celebrate the graduation of the 332d AEW First Sergeant Symposium. This symposium teaches knowledge about the role, and tools that can be applied in leadership situations. Not all attendees will become First Sergeants, but all learned leadership skills that they can take back to their workplaces.
Members attended classes lead by existing First Sergeants, and experts from the Helping Agencies Team. The Helping Agencies Team provided education on mental health, workplace legal issues, sexual assaults, domestic violence, counseling and confrontation, and psychological resiliency. Members learned to deal with real-life scenarios like suicide, drug abuse and driving while intoxicated.
