The Top III Association of Prince Sultan Air Base, presented an award to an airman who went above and beyond their normal duty tasks.
The Unsung Hero award recognizes up-and-coming leaders within the ranks of E5 and E6 who exemplify their service’s core values, oftentimes behind the scenes, inspiring others and contributing to the improvement of customer service and the overall mission.
Tech. Sgt. Alexandria Smith, a grounds transportation operations center dispatcher with the 378th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron, led her team by example, motivating 20 members toward the accomplishment of 36 professional development courses while completing two academic classes of her own for her bachelors. She also led her team in completing three wing volunteer events and is a member of Team Phoenix.
Team Phoenix is a peer-to-peer program, consisting of members across the base, who help point people to the right helping agency to suit their needs, whether it be Mental Health, Equal Opportunity, Sexual Assault Prevention and Response, or the Chapel.
“To me winning the Unsung Hero Award means that I'm helping my people in different ways, said Smith. “Whether its by giving them the opportunity to go to PDCs or to sign up for school or teaching them how to do these things, I’m showing them how to get to the next level.”
Smith also inspired her troops through her work ethic having simultaneously organized the disassembly and relocation of tactical common data link satellites for the 430th Expeditionary Electronic Combat Squadron used to relay and receive tactical data, and the movement of 15 connexs for the 557th Expeditionary Red Horse Squadron. She has made a big impact across PSAB.
“I like PSAB because it’s a tight-knit community where you get to work with different entities, that at a home station you normally wouldn’t get to work with and see how the mission plays out” said Smith, who deployed to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from the 5th Logistics Readiness Squadron, out of Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota.
Come this September, Smith will have been in the military for 12 years. Her career spans three deployments and five duty locations both in the U.S. and overseas, including Germany where she met her wife.
“My favorite part of the military is definitely the opportunities that it has afforded me to travel,” said Smith “It's amazing being able to travel Asia, Europe, and have fun seeing things I normally wouldn’t see.”
The Prince Sultan Air Base Top 3 Association is a group of senior non-commissioned officers devoted to helping the PSAB enlisted force.
Every month they present the Unsung Hero Award not just to thank Airmen for their hard work, but to encourage the enlisted force to hold firm their values and to be an example of integrity first, service before self and excellence in all that they do.
