Senior Master Sgt. Olando T. Watt, 379th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron Deployment and Distribution Flight superintendent, was recently recognized as the Air Force's 2011 Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Excellence in Traffic Management winner.

The Excellence in Traffic Management Awards are presented each year by SDDC to exceptional civilian and enlisted traffic managers who best represent the command's core competencies as global surface transportation experts.

"I am truly humbled and honored to be recognized for this great award," said Watt, a native of Chicago, Ill. "This success couldn't have been accomplished without the hard and dedicated work of the Airmen I lead and the unwavering support from my leadership."

While serving with the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, Watt guided his 54-man team in facilitating the processing of more than 31,000 military and civilian personnel in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, NEW DAWN and Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa.

"Sergeant Watt makes my job a lot easier," said Chief Master Sgt. Henry Purvis, 379th ELRS superintendent. "He is a dynamic leader who is consistently doing great things for the Air Force and this award solidifies that."

Watt oversaw the allocation of a five-acre cargo holding area and the operations for more than 20 million pounds of cargo from the Iraq drawdown ensuring all cargo was properly processed, secured and prepared for onward movement.

He also handled a 300 percent workload increase in passenger travel requirements due to the Iraq drawdown, overseeing 3,000 travel requests valued at $2 million and ensured all warfighters were safely redeployed home within 72 hours of arrival.

Watt, and the other award winners, will be recognized at the 66th Annual National Defense Transportation Association's Transportation Logistics Forum this fall in Anchorage, Alaska.
