379th ESVS begins Trips and Tours program Published Sept. 29, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Jason Barebo 379th Air Expeditionary Wing Public Affairs SOUTHWEST ASIA -- The 379th Expeditionary Services Squadron will begin its Trips and Tours program in October. The first trip will take place mid Oct. after the end of Ramadan. The new schedule will be available Oct. 2 to allow those who wish to participate enough time to begin signing up. The program is open to all U.S. military members and Department of Defense civilians. The Trips and Tours program not only allows people to visit the local shopping centers and sites, but also gives them an opportunity to visit the beach area and enjoy other activities such as golf. "We create different opportunities for the troops to go off base and learn more about the local culture, shop or just relax," said Serria Newton-Fulford, Trips and Tours program director. Trips and Tours will hold one event each week and the program is a first come, first serve. The Trips and Tours program itself is a free service; however some events such as golfing and a trip to the beach may have fees. "If we go on an adventure tour or to the beach, the local businesses charge for use of their facilities and their part of the beach," Newton-Fulford said. To take advantage of the Trips and Tours program, interested personnel will need to have their off-base travel request approved and turn in the original form (a copy is retained by your squadron) to Trips and Tours no later than three days prior to the tour date. The approved form is then submitted through the 379th Expeditionary Mission Support Group chain-of-command for their approval. The off-base travel authorization form is available on the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing's internal Web site under the Trips and Tours section and the Personal Accountability section. The Trips and Tours calendar is also located on the intranet. Click on Groups, 379 EMSG, 379 ESVS and then click on Trips and Tours. Space for each tour is limited, so those who wish to participate are encouraged to sign up and complete their paperwork as soon as possible, however only one person has to sign up for a trip to proceed. Trip days vary to allow everyone a chance to take advantage of the program, and typically begin at 7 a.m. though some events may require an earlier or later time.
