The Personnel Support for Contingency Operations team (PERSCO) recently merged with the 379th Expeditionary Services Squadron here, which is designed to better provide services to troops here.

The move is in conjunction with the Air Force-wide initiative to merge the personnel and services career fields and to better provide the wide-range of services available to servicemembers deployed here.

This change, which is in line with an Air Force-wide initiative to merge the services and personnel career fields, took effect June 1. However, the two units have been working together closely for the past year and the merger has already reaped huge benefits for the base.

One benefit is the time it takes to in process upon arriving here. Airmen can check into the base and receive lodging all at one time. What used to take hours is now a matter of minutes.

The 379th ESVS has also streamlined out-processing procedures and made them available on the Web. Virtual out-processing is estimated to save an Airman about four hours. The merger also provides a huge camaraderie benefit for the two teams.

"At home stations, a mission support squadron provides diverse functions such as the military personnel flight, education office, Airman and family readiness centers and other personnel and family programs," said Lt. Col. Susan Ferrera, 379th ESVS commander.
"What we've done here is create a more recognizable organization for Airmen to work their personnel and education issues in concert. The education system is closely tied to personnel so now when Airmen have problems with their records; they have one flight to work with."

That flight is called the Personnel Services Flight and is led by the current PERSCO Team Chief, Capt Adam Avnet.

"I am extremely pleased to join the ESVS family and to do whatever we can in the deployed environment to continue to improve our services to deployed Airmen. In time, we will develop new and better processes as a result of this merger" he said.

The merger will have no immediate effect on the public at large, but it is providing the services community a broader scope of personnel readiness while continuing to provide world-class support to the Desert Eagle Team.
