Airmen assigned to the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing and its tenant units can add another distinguished accomplishment to their records. The 379th AEW was awarded the Meritorious Unit Award, for the dates between June 1, 2013 and May 31, 2014, by U.S. Air Forces Central Command, at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, June 23.

The wing received the award for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding achievement or service in direct support of combat operations lasting at least 90 consecutive days. The actions of those assigned must display outstanding devotion and superior performance.

U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Darren Hartford, 379th Air Expeditionary Wing commander, congratulated the Grand Slam Wing on a job well done.

"Thanks to your hard work and dedication to our mission over the past year," said Hartford. "Thank you for enabling and executing decisive, combat power."

Some of the accomplishments that add to the award include: over 22,000 joint and coalition personnel rotating through AUAB, 11,500 combat sorties, 322 million pounds of fuel supplied to more than 26,000 receivers through air refueling operations, the first forward deployment of tanker aircraft to Afghanistan and a three-day surge of close air support, airborne intelligence collection and air refueling to support the Afghanistan national elections in May.

"Congratulations and keep up the great work," said Hartford.

The MUA may be added to permanent records by contacting your home station military personnel section. For those permanently assigned to the wing during this time period, the addition will be handled by Shaw Air Force Base.
