AFTRCC ensures mission success

Every year more than 150,000 military personnel travel through Al Udied Air Base, Qatar, en route to their final deployment destination to continue the mission or to get back home to reunite with family.

The coordination of thousands of service members who are in support of Operation Enduring Freedom falls under the Air Force Transient Reception Control Center located here to ensure all passengers flying through AUAB get to their final destination.

As the transfer of Afghanistan continues, the number of military members transitioning through AUAB continues to increase.

"Since the Transit Center at Manas, Kyrgyzstan, is closing, we have seen a 400 percent increase in workload since January 2014," said 1st Lt. Nathan Brown, 379th Air Expeditionary Wing installation deployment officer who is deployed from March Air Reserve Base, Calif. and a native of Riverside, Calif.

There are two important pieces of the AFTRCC which are getting troops to the combatant commander to continue the mission and getting troops out of the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.

"We are an important piece of the puzzle," Brown said. "Without us, the mission would come to a halt because there would be no way to get service members to their deployment destinations.
"We're one of the very popular organizations on this base when it's time for people to go home. I'm always happy to see those people get on the plane going home. We're happy to be a part of that."

According to Tech. Sgt. Kristopher Mullin, AFTRCC logistics planner who is deployed from Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, N.Y. and hails from Rome, N.Y., his job to get people on time to where they need to go is an important one.

"We are helping sustain the war effort by getting people to the right place," Mullin said. "With the transfer out of Afghanistan we are in the peak season and it's rewarding to now I am a part of getting people to the mission and it's even more rewarding to see them go home."
