The 379th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron recertified the Aircraft Arresting System Oct. 9, here. The AAS is required to be certified annually to ensure its ability to perform properly in the event an emergency stop is needed on the flight line.

The system consists of a large cable that spans the width of the runway, as well as two Barrier Arresting Kit-12 units on either side that reel in the cable and keep tension on it. The system also incorporates a BAK-14, which raises and lowers the cable so it does not impede normal flight line operations.
