Considering himself a seasoned supporter during child-birth after having his third child, Maj. Frank Dillard, 380th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron senior intelligence officer, didn't think he could play the same role during the birth of his fourth child from across the globe.

On June 22, 2013, at approximately 6 p.m., his wife, Rose, gave birth to Thomas while "The Star-Spangled Banner" played in the background here. Dillard, who had the opportunity to have a participative role, was sitting in the Seven Sands Chapel manning a "command post" from more than 8,000 miles away.

"This is my first time deployed while my wife was having a child," said Dillard. "Minus not being able to hold her hand, it was really nice to be part of the process. The chapel helped tremendously and it made a huge difference for my wife and kids."

With a good internet connection, a computer and a big screen TV, Dillard was able to talk with family members in the room, provide real-time updates for those following on Facebook and help Rose with her breathing.

The family planned to induce labor for their fourth child June 24 so that Dillard could witness the birth. However, Thomas was not willing to wait and was born two days earlier than planned.

"This is not a tough deployment, I love the place and the mission," said Dillard. "The hardest part is being separated from my wife and kids."

Operation Home Front is ran from the Haven, a room set aside by the chapel specifically for members of the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing for significant events. The chapel also offers greetings and calling cards, and provides 100 percent confidential counseling to Airmen.

"This program takes the sting out of being away," said Dillard. "The chapel did a great job and I would recommend every Airman contact them for significant events,"
