The 380th Air Expeditionary Wing is set to kick off its annual Combined Federal Campaign-Overseas, Oct. 3, with a cake-cutting event hosted by Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Lofgren, the 380th AEW commander.

"The CFC is a way to give back and to help make a difference," said Master Sgt. Sherri King, the infrastructure branch chief for the 380th Expeditionary Communication Squadron, and the wing CFC community and area project officer. "We're looking forward to kicking off the CFC season. I think we will have good participation because our folks know the value of giving back."

The CFC-O drive is from Oct. 3 through Dec. 2 here. Contributors can go to www.cfcoverseas.org to complete a paperless contribution via credit card, debit card or e-check. Personnel may also make donations via payroll allotment, cash or check using a paper pledge card.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the CFC-O, which is the annual workplace-giving campaign for the five overseas combatant commands. President John F. Kennedy started the campaign in 1961 as a way for Department of Defense uniformed and civilian personnel to give back and touch the lives of people in military communities across the world, according to Global Impact officials, the organization that manages CFC-O.

Anyone that donates $120 or more will receive a special 50th Anniversary coin from the CFC, King said.

Each unit has a CFC representative that is responsible for contacting each person in the unit to explain the program and gather donations.

"Our goal is to make 100 percent contact with all personnel here," she said. "Every penny counts."

She is also working with private organizations on base to set up fundraisers for the CFC-O. The money raised will go to back to the military community via the Family Support and Youth Program fund. FSYP donations are returned to overseas military installations to support quality of life programs for uniformed services members, federal civilians and their families, according to Global Impact.

Additionally, King noted that throughout the campaign, her group will set up an information and donation table on Sundays at the Chapman Activity Center during football games as well as at the Halloween Bash, Oct. 31.

The mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee-focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all, according to the CFC website, www.opm.cfc.gov/cfc.
