Deployed Airmen from the 380th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron performed a massive maintenance overhaul of the mobile aircraft arresting system at the flightline at the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing in Southwest Asia Aug. 18-27.

The overhual is due every 10 years and took two weeks to complete.

The MAAS is an emergency braking system for tail-hook-equipped aircraft. It is used in emergency situations where a fighter aircraft needs assistance with coming to a stop after a flight. This occasionally occurs due to mechanical failures beyond the pilot's abilities to correct prior to landing.
