Members of the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing are authorized to send free mail as of Nov. 10, 2009.

Free mail is limited to personal letters or sound-recorded correspondence, to include video tapes, weighing less than 13 ounces, said Capt. Kelly McElroy, 380th Expeditionary Communications Squadron.

For mail to be sent for free, "FREE," must be hand-written in the upper right-hand corner of the envelope, and the return address must be from a location that is authorized free-mail privileges, she said.

According to Captain McElroy, "The purpose of free mail is to not deprive servicemembers who are forward deployed of the opportunity to write home because they don't have access to an APO to buy stamps."
