Rock Solid Warrior: Staff Sgt. Joshua Busch Published March 20, 2018 By Tech. Sgt. Kurt Mintz 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Southwest Asia -- This week’s Rock Solid Warrior is Staff Sgt. Joshua Busch, NCOIC, Readiness & Training for the 386 AEW Chapel, deployed from the 55th Wing Chapel at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. The Rock Solid Warrior program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the mission. Why did you join the Air Force? I didn’t know what I wanted to study if I went to college. I knew that I didn’t want to spend thousands of dollars per year studying something I wasn’t sure I would like. I had talked to my uncle who was in the Air Force at the time, and he really sold me on it. How is your deployed unit/job different from your home unit/job? Out here, I get to actually help out with the chapel mission in more of a direct role. Being able to connect with different people from all over the base on a daily basis is pretty cool. What are some of your professional and personal goals? Professionally, I would like to make Tech. Sgt. my first try this year. A lot of my personal time is used to complete my bachelor’s degree, which I should be done with by the end of this year. Which leads to another goal of pursuing commissioning opportunities when I re-deploy back home. What is your favorite part of your mission here? There are a lot of awesome parts to my job here. I get to go out to the units with my Chaplain, and just hang out with people and build relationships. What are some of your hobbies? I enjoy going to the gym. It helps me relax and unwind. Back home, I enjoy taking my wife and daughters fishing, going on hikes with them, and hunting. My biggest hobby is football, specifically anything to do with Nebraska Cornhusker football. What are some of the challenges you face here? How do you overcome them? Really the biggest challenge out here is being away from my family, and not being there for my pregnant wife and two daughters. But we make a point to facetime every day, so that helps a little.
